This past week I had the pleasure of participating in an amazing conversation with celebrity stylist/ professional athlete Kwasi Kessie and pro photographers Jerome Shaw and Karl Ferguson. We stood around the bar at Harlem Tavern and discussed the fundamentals of success and progression as a freelance professional in New York City. The group touched on several points but two connecting points stood out the most, consistency and continuing education. Consistency because clients want the best and usually hire you because they’re expecting a similar, if not better, product than what they’ve seen from you before. Continuing education because we all know how important it is to always stay current when it comes to your craft. Lots of gems and words of wisdom were taken from this conversation and we wanted to share them with any young professionals that were interested in listening. From this idea we created a book club. Not just any book club, but the Black Men who read Book Club and this is your invitation.
The group will read about 1 – 2 books per month with in depth discussions and brain storming sessions at the end of each book. Daily communication and progress updates will take place in an exclusive Slack group chat. New books will be announced monthly via email and the slack chat. New members will be welcomed at the end of every book discussion. The link below is your access to the slack chat room and expires at the start of our first book.
Our first group read is going to be The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and the start date is next Monday, 5/29/17.
